这是本文的第一段第一句话，句子虽长，其实只是一个句子。
主干是I am always amazed when I hear people saying……，是一个时间状语从句，而saying之后则接以that引导的两个宾语从句：
……that sport creats goodwill between the nations；
……that if only the common peoples of the world could meet one another at football or cricket, they would have no inclination to meet on the battlefield.
前一个从句比较简单，而后一个从句里面又存在一个以if引导的假设状语从句：

2、deduce: arrive at (knowledge, a theory, etc) by reasoning; reach a conclusion（根据事实推理，推想，演绎出知识，学说等，获取结论）
*If you saw a doctor leaving a house, you might deduce the fact that someone in the house was ill.

这是本文第一段第二句话，也是一个由even if所引导的让步状语从句，

而在从句中，还存在一个以that所引导的宾语从句：

这是本文第二段的第三、四句话，第三句主干是一个由but连接的转折状语从句，
主干中有一个地点状语：

而这个地点状语中，存在一个由where引导的非限定性状语从句：
where you pick up sides and no feeling of local partiotism is involved
而主干的从句中则存在以两个as soon as引导的条件状语从句：
as soon as the question of prestige arises；
as soon as you feel that you and some larger unit will be disgraced if you lose,
在第二个条件从句中还存在一个由if引导的假设状语从句：

第四句比较简单，只是存在一个由who引导的定语从句：
……who has played even in a school football match

这是本文第二段的最后两句，其中第六句比较复杂，重点分析一下。
其中只要将主干提出来，也比较容易理解，主干是：
the significant thing is not the behaviour of the players but the attitude of the spectators……（the attitude）of the nations
而ntaions则有一个以who引导的定语从句，而这个从句中有两个关键动词work和believe：
who work themselves into furies over these absurd contests,
and seriously believe--at any rate for short periods--that running, jumping and kicking a ball are tests of national virtue
而第二个关键动词由引导一下宾语从句：
that running, jumping and kicking a ball are tests of national virtue
